Description |
---|
This is a story of how under the most severe situations, including a kidnapping, Sunni and Shia could still help each other when they recognized they had the same fears for their children. Ansari, is in his mid 50's. He is college educated and speaks English. He was trained as an engineer, but was forced to take many jobs to support his family after the US invasion in 2003. Because he spoke English he took a job helping the Americans as a translator. As a result he witnessed many inequities of treatment of the Iraqi soldiers versus the American soldiers and tells of an incident of an Iraqi soldier and friend being hurt and not getting immediate care. His world is turned upside down as he tries to get his friend to a good hospital. At another point he is kidnapped, by militia in his neighborhood and held for about a week. His story of his final release by a Shia taxi driver is moving and shows that on the personal and humanitarian level people could help each other. |
