---|
Bijoy Jain is founder of Studio Mumbai Architects. Jain was born in Mumbai, India, in 1965. He received his M.Arch. from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., in 1990. He worked at Richard Meier and Partners in Los Angeles from 1989 to 1991, and formed Bijoy Jain + Associates in 1996 in Mumbai. Studio Mumbai was founded in 2005. The Indian landscape, as well as local resources, materials and technology, play key roles in the office's projects, which train local artisans and skilled laborers during the planning and building process. Planning always begins by bringing local craftsmen together and making plans in collaboration. Studio Mumbai Architects' projects invariably involve a social dimension, which aims at improving people's living and housing conditions through local resources. Recent works include private residences, an urban community space, biotech research center and a retreat in the backwaters of south India |
