In this 5 part program, Karen Lindsey reads Professor Ivan Morris' translation of "The Pillow Book," (1967) a book of observations and musings recorded by Sei ShÅnagon during her time as court lady to Empress Consort Teishi (定å) during the 990s and early 11th century in Heian Japan. In Part 1, Ms. Linsey interviews Professor Donald Keene, the leading expert on and translator of Japanese literature in America. They discuss how at this period of time, women created many of the most important intellectual works of the time. In Parts 2-5, Ms. Lindsey reads the book in four parts. |
